The town was originated in the second half of 13rd century. It is the birthplace of famous czech writer Alois Jirásek. The main expansion start in the 19th century thanks the railway. On the hillock over the town there is the Gothic church of All Saints from the year 1359, later Baroque rebuilt. Important building is alo the Jirásek´s theatre from the year 1930. Every year you can see there the famous festival of amateur groups. You can visit also the birth-house of Alois Jirásek and its grave. The other important natives are Josef Čapek, Helena Čapková or Egon Hostovský.
